one of the highlights of our richfield 4th happened friday night. we walked during that perfect dusk hour through the cemetery, down the canal, by grandma sandberg's house and around her block. dad told us stories of being a young boy in richfield. he and stephen daniels tied a rope to the branch of one of the big trees lining the canal so they could swing across. to actually make it across you had to jump back to get enough momentum to make it across, otherwise you ended up in the canal. worried parents/city authorities removed the rope. the boys bought another and continued their fun. the branch was cut off. they attached a rope to another branch. the game was over when they showed up and the entire tree had been cut down! dad is standing on the trunk of the tree that was cut down over 50 years ago.
dad's comment from instagram: Thank you for documenting this awesome, boyish shananigans memory. The city people never made an attempt to ask us to stop. It was fun but a bit dangerous for anyone that didn't know the "trick" to a successful launch. :)
dad got weepy, while walking around the cemetery, telling us how much he loves being in richfield with us and our little kids. richfield is such a big part of mom and dad's lives. and ours. i'm glad we are making memories there with our kids too. it was a moment i want to remember.
